THE POWER OF AN EDUCATED COMMUNITY

Hi, I'm Judith, and I've just joined Credit.com as Director of Products and Marketing.  It's an interesting time to take a job in the world of consumer finance, with one eye on the daily news and one on the stories of friends and family affected by the daily news.  Just yesterday, my friend Mena Trott (who developed Typepad, the software that runs this blog) posted a story to her blog about how her grandparents, who have a long and careful credit history, saw their card rates triple this week.  Her story appears today on the Huffington Post, where dozens (and by the time you read this, probably hundreds) of people have chimed in with similar stories. 

One nice thing about my new job is that I get to share an office with a noted credit expert (Hi Emily!) and to have regular discussions with a team of financial gurus with lots of excellent advice in dealing with credit and personal finance issues.  I'm learning a lot.  And another nice thing about my new job is that I get to help our team make places for you to come have discussions with experts too - here on the blog, in our Credit.com forums, or through tools like our Twitter feed. 

Discussions like these on Credit.com or on Mena's blog or on your own blog are part of a growing trend - as consumers, we are getting more engaged with the process of managing our credit and standing up for our rights.  We're able to reach out to our Attorneys General, the FTC or the Senate Banking Committee.  We're able to share tips easily and uncover information that was previously hard to find (for example, I didn't know that you can opt out of a credit card rate increase, and if you do, you can't use the card or it will nullify the opt-out agreement.  Good to know!)

I'm learning so many new things from your blogs and from our experts and a growing community of educated consumers.  I'm excited to be building new tools and services to help us navigate these difficult times.  Feel free to comment here or in our forums if you have some ideas or questions for any of us!
